Global Warming Definition “Global warming is a gradual increase in the earth’s temperature generally due to the greenhouse effect caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide, CFCs, and other pollutants. “   Global warming is the phenomenon of a gradual increase in the temperature near the Earth’s surface. This phenomenon has been observed over the past one or two centuries. This change has disturbed the climatic pattern of the earth. However, the concept of global warming is quite controversial but the scientists have provided relevant data in support of the fact that the temperature of the Earth is rising constantly. There are several causes of global warming, which have a negative effect on humans, plants and animals. These causes may be natural or might be the outcome of human activities. In order to curb the issues, it is very important to understand the negative impacts of global warming. Let us have a detailed study of global warming, its ...

GLOBAL WARMING  Global warming or climate change has today become a major threat to the mankind. The Earth's temperature is on the rise and there are various reasons for it such as greenhouse gases emanating from carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, burning of fossil fuels or deforestation. Impact of Greenhouse Gases The rise in the levels of carbon dioxide (CO2) leads to substantial increase in temperature. It is because CO2 remains concentrated in the atmosphere for even hundreds of years. Due to activities like fossil fuel combustion for electricity generation, transpotation, and heating, human beings have contributed to increase in the CO2 concentration in the atmosphere.  Global Warming: A Gradual Phenomenon Recent years have been unusually warm, causing worldwide concern. But the fact is that the increase in carbon dioxide actually began in 1800, due to the deforestation of a large chunk of North-eastern American, besides forested parts of the world. The things became w...

The relationship between resilience and mental health Having solid mental health doesn’t mean that you never go through bad times or experience emotional problems. We all go through disappointments, loss, and change. And while these are normal parts of life, they can still cause sadness, anxiety, and stress. But just as physically healthy people are better able to bounce back from illness or injury, people with strong mental health are better able to bounce back from adversity, trauma, and stress. This ability is called  resilience . People who are emotionally and mentally resilient have the tools for coping with difficult situations and maintaining a positive outlook. They remain focused, flexible, and productive, in bad times as well as good.  Their resilience  also makes them less afraid of new experiences or an uncertain future. Even when they don’t immediately know how a problem will get resolved, they are hopeful that a solution will eventually be found.

Mental Illness by Akif Haikal

KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 10): Malaysians must work together to empower self with mental health care and address the stigma against mental illness, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah. He said everyone’s mental health could be affected in various ways, especially when the country was fighting against the Covid-19 pandemic. Hence, he said it was crucial for society to have the knowledge to identify early symptoms of mental illness and depression so that assistance could be provided via the Health Ministry’s ‘Let’s TALK Minda Sihat’ programme. “Start with talking to someone you trust, which is T — Tell someone you trust about your problem, A — Ask for help, L — Listen without judgement and K — Know where to seek help. “Don’t stigmatise this illness. Instead, we have to help the people we love and the people around us to seek assistance for the problems,” he said in conjunction with the World Mental Health Day celebration which falls on Oct 10 every year. Dr Noo...

MENTAL ILLNESS BY HAIQAL

The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that of all illnesses, depression is the leading cause of ill health and disability worldwide. According to the latest estimates from WHO, more than 300 million people are now living with depression. Depression and anxiety are prevalent problems in colleges across the country. During college, students experience many firsts, including a new lifestyle, friends, roommates, exposure to a new culture and experiences. Students may struggle if they can't manage these firsts. If students aren't prepared to cope, they can become easily susceptible to depression and anxiety.    Depression is a medical condition that can affect a student's ability to work, study, interact with peers, or take care of themselves. Symptoms of depression may include: difficulty sleeping or sleeping too much, appetite changes, withdrawing from participating in activities once enjoyed, feelings of sadness, hopelessness, unhappiness, and difficulty concentr...

Results from a nationwide cohort study in Denmark of more than 2 million people aged 50 years and older showed that those who sustained a traumatic brain injury were more likely to develop all-cause dementia and Alzheimer’s disease than those with no history of injury.   Furthermore, this risk increased as the number of traumatic brain injuries (TBI) and the severity of injury increased, according to findings published in The Lancet Psychiatry.   “Dementia and TBI are major causes of disability worldwide, and their relationship to each other has been thrown into the spotlight in recent years among military veterans and participants of contact sports. There have been conflicting data published on the impact of TBI on risk of developing dementia,” Jesse R. Fann, MD, MPH, professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences, University of Washington, Seattle, told Healio Psychiatry. “These conflicting findings are due in part to limitations in study samples and methodol...

What Is Global Warming, Explained - Ahmad Afiq

Glaciers are melting , sea levels are rising,  cloud forests are dyin g , and  wildlife is scrambling  to keep pace. It has become clear that humans have caused most of the past century's warming by  releasing  heat-trapping gases as we power our modern lives. Called greenhouse gases, their levels are  higher now than at any time in the last 800,000 years . We often call the result global warming, but it is causing a set of changes to the Earth's climate, or long-term weather patterns, that varies from place to place. While many people think of  global warming and climate change as synonyms , scientists use “climate change” when describing the complex shifts now affecting our planet’s weather and climate systems—in part because some areas  actually get cooler in the short term . Climate change encompasses not only rising average temperatures but also  extreme weather events , shifting wildlife populations and habitats,  rising...

Headline : Causes Of Road Accidents Short article : Road users around the capital are advised to be extra careful following the current weather conditions which often rain, especially in the afternoon and evening. Many factors contribute to the increase in the number of accidents among them are following the vehicle in front too closely is also dangerous as the ability to stop the vehicle will deteriorate. Rainy weather also limits the distance of sight, especially at night, therefore road users are advised to be more sensitive when driving in such conditions. Accidents also often occur due to the attitude of road users who like to change direction at the last minute causing the driver behind not to have time to brake. Other factors contributing to the occurrence of accidents are technical failures, including warning lights, brake lights and malfunctioning rear lights. This will invite danger when other road users do not notice the vehicle situation in front of them or some vehicle ...

MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEMS AT WORKPLACE Globally, an estimated 264 million people suffer from depression, one of the leading causes of disability, with many of these people also suffering from symptoms of anxiety. A recent WHO-led study estimates that depression and anxiety disorders cost the global economy US$ 1 trillion each year in lost productivity. Unemployment is a well-recognized risk factor for mental health problems, while returning to, or getting work is protective. A negative working environment may lead to physical and mental health problems, harmful use of substances or alcohol, absenteeism and lost productivity. Workplaces that promote mental health and support people with mental disorders are more likely to reduce absenteeism, increase productivity and benefit from associated economic gains. This information sheet addresses mental health and disorders in the workplace. It also covers difficulties which are not mental disorders but which may be created or exacerbate...

CHILD SAFETY BY NURUL SHAKILA Vancouver dad to appeal court ruling his kids can’t take the bus to school alone A Vancouver man says he will appeal a court judgment barring him from letting his kids take the bus home from school without supervision. The father took the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) to court, after it told him his children couldn’t take transit home alone in 2017 following a complaint. He argues that’s a violation of his charter rights to raise his children as he sees fit. “There’s a whole bunch of data out there about how kids are a lot more coddled then they were in our generation growing up, and what that does to their sense of confidence, their ability to navigate independently in the world,” the father told Global News on Monday, after learning about the court’s ruling. “I wanted my kids to be able to — and I still obviously want this — to be able to navigate the world independently and get the confidence that comes from that.” The father s...
