A man died at the scene of a two-car accident

ALOR SETAR: A man died while two others, including his wife, were involved in an accident involving two vehicles at Kilometer 40 Jalan Putra, last night.In the incident at 7.10 pm, the victim, Abdul Aziz, 43, who was driving a Proton Saga died at the scene due to severe injuries to several limbs.

His wife, 40, a front passenger of the car, was injured in the hand and foot.

Kota Setar District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Nor Omar Sapp, said the accident involving the Proton Saga ridden by the couple involved with the Proton Perdana, was driven by a 25-year-old man.He said, the initial investigation found that the Proton Saga was from Kuala Kedah heading to Alor Setar while the Proton Perdana was from the opposite direction.

"Upon arriving at the scene, the driver of the Proton Saga is believed to have entered the opposite lane which is the legal route of the Proton Perdana.

"Due to the distance that is too close, the driver of the Proton Perdana did not have time to dodge and caused the two vehicles to collide at the front," he said when contacted, today.

He said the accident caused the victim to die at the scene while his wife and driver of the Proton Perdana were seriously injured.

"The woman was injured in the hands and feet while the driver of the Proton Perdana was in the head. Both of them were rushed to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital.

"The victim's body was sent to the Forensic Department of the same hospital for an autopsy," he said.

KUALA LUMPUR: Badminton player Datuk Lee Chong Wei and squash queen Datuk Nicol Ann David were named National Athletes and Athletes 2008 to repeat their achievements in 2005.

Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin agreed to present the two main prizes of the National Sports Award 2008 accompanied by a trophy and a reward of RM10,000 at a ceremony at a hotel. This achievement has raised the country's name internationally.

Dato 'Lee Chong Wei, formerly the world's number one men's singles player, started last season with the success of winning the Malaysian Open Super Series, for the fourth time in a row.

He also emerged runner-up in the Japanese Open Super Series, Macau Open and Chinese Open Super Series. He won a silver medal in the men's singles event at the Beijing Olympics last year after losing to Chinese champion Lin Dan. This made Malaysians proud of his achievements.

Nicol, 26, also from Penang, managed to maintain the top ranking in the world over the past three years. She has also won all 10 professional tournaments, including the world singles tournament. She led the Malaysian squash team to third place in the Women's World Team Championship.
