KUALA BERANG: Three were killed and two were injured in an
accident involving two vehicles at Kilometer 42, Jalan Kuala Jeneris-Sungai
Gawi (Aring) here, yesterday afternoon.
The incident is believed to have occurred at 7.30 pm, involving a
trailer carrying a load of amang iron ore and a Toyota Vios, ridden by five
men.
Those killed were Toyota Vios driver Noriskandar Muzafar, 33,
front passenger Wan Ahmad Adam Murshidy Wan Rosli, 24, and rear passenger
Zulkarnain Buniyami, 18.
The other two passengers of the car, Afif Safwan Mohd Zuki, 21,
and Mohamad Rusydi Md. Said, 26, was injured while the 24-year-old trailer
driver was not injured.
Hulu Terengganu District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Mohd
Adli Mat Daud, said the incident is believed to have occurred when a trailer
truck was traveling from Gua Musang, Kelantan towards Gebeng Port, Kuantan,
Pahang.
He said, five other men who were riding in a Toyota Vios were said
to be on their way from Bera, Pahang towards Perak.
"As soon as they arrived at the scene, the car driven by the
victim allegedly hit the puddle and lost control and slipped into the trailer
lane.
"The car crashed into the front of the trailer causing three
to die at the scene.
"The two injured were taken to Hulu Terengganu Hospital for
treatment while the bodies of the three victims were taken to the Forensic Unit
of the same hospital for an autopsy.

KUALA LUMPUR: All parties need to
respect the decision of the two national sports champions - Datuk Lee Chong Wei
and Datuk Nicol David if they decide to retire in the near future.
Youth and Sports Minister Khairy
Jamaluddin Abu Bakar said, what is important, the two sports, namely badminton
and squash, need to have their successors to continue to make the country
famous.
"I personally discussed with
them about their future, and I personally informed that all sports institutions
in the country will support until they feel they want to retire," he said.
He said this at a press conference
after officiating the Anti-Doping Awareness Campaign organized by the Malaysian
Olympic Council which was attended by more than 200 athletes, coaches and
sports officials at Wisma OCM, here today.
Khairy said Nicol, 33, had told him
he still wanted to play for at least the next five years and Chong Wei, 34,
also expressed his desire to play for at least another year.
"The (retirement) decision is
their right, so if Chong Wei feels the World Championships in Glasgow on
(August) this year are the last tournament, we should respect his
decision," he explained.
